Wicked Tickets:

The musical "Wicked" is "the untold story of the witches of Oz". Stephen Schwartz composed the music and written the lyrics. The book of the musical is by Winnie Holzman.

The musical is based on the Gregory Maguire's novel "Wicked: The life of the Wicked Witch of the West" (1995) and L. Frank Baum's classic story "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" (1900). Long before Dorothy from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the Land of Oz. The first -- born with emerald green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The second girl is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. The story of the musical shows how these two characters grow to become Elphaba - the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda -- the Good Witch.

This unique fairy musical premiered on Broadway at the "Gershwin Theatre" in October 2003 and was directed by Joe Mantello. The performance was glamour and surprising with its special effects. The same year was released an audio album.

In 2004 the musical received a great number of prestigious awards - four "Broadway.com Audience Awards", six "Drama Desk Awards", one "Drama League Award", "Eddy Awards", three "Tony Awards"and four "Outer Critics Circle Awards".

In 2005 the record "Wicked" was named "Best Musical Show Album" at the Grammy Awards ceremony. The cast recording features original stars Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, Norbert Leo Butz, Carole Shelley, Michelle Federer, Christopher Fitzgerald and William Youmans. The recording of "Wicked" has also officially been certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

New productions of the musical were opened in Chicago and London in 2006.

Since its first performance, the production has continued to captivate audiences and currently ranks in the top 20 of Broadway's longest running shows, having played over 2,910 performances.
