Chicago is an American rock and roll band. It was formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. The current lineup of the band includes Robert Lamm (keyboards, synthesizers, guitar, vocals), James Pankow (trombone, percussion, keyboards, vocals), Lee Loughnane (trumpet, guitar, keyboards, percussion, vocals), Walter Parazaider (woodwinds, backing vocals), Jason Scheff (bass, keyboards, vocals), Tris Imboden (drums, percussion, harmonica), Keith Howland (guitar, vocals), Drew Hester (drums, percussion), and Lou Pardini (keyboards, vocals). The band was originally called The Big Thing. The group started in March 1967 as a cover band and played mostly in local clubs in Chicago. They changed the name to The Chicago Transit Authority for the releasing of their debut self-titled album in 1969. This studio edition became a total hit and reached number 17 in the US during a chart stay of 171 weeks. It also was a real breakthrough in UK and peaked at number nine on the UK Pop Albums Chart. The same year the musicians decided to shorten the band's name to simply Chicago, which remained for years. Since 1967 Chicago has released 22 studio albums, 3 live albums, and 19 compilations. The musicians have produced 63 singles, eight of them became number one hits. In October 2011, Chicago released their new Christmas album "Chicago XXXIII: O Christmas Three." The same year the band released a concert from 1975 - "Chicago XXXIV: Live in '75." In 1977 Chicago won a Grammy Award for "Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group" for the song "If You Leave Me Now." The band received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on July 23, 1992. The band is included in the list of the world's best-selling music artists with claimed sales of 122 million and a total number of available certified units of 47.6 million in US, Canada, Germany, UK, and France.
