My Fair Lady Tickets:

My Fair Lady is a musical based on the play Pygmalion: a Romance in Five Acts by the Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw. The book and lyrics are written by Alan Jay Lerner and the music is composed by Frederick Loewe.

The story follows the transformation of a poor and ignorant girl into a sophisticated lady. Henry Higgins made a bet that he could get Eliza Doolittle, a girl who sells flowers in Covent Garden, and turn her into a lady which would fit into the higher class. She agrees to take speech lessons from the phonetician Henry Higgins in order to fulfill her dream of working in a flower shop. But the fortune decides to do something else with her life. The young aristocrat Freddy Eynsford-Hill falls madly in love with her. Eliza's heart belongs to Higgins, but when he takes all the credit and forgets to acknowledge her efforts, Eliza angrily leaves him for Freddy, and suddenly Higgins realizes his strong feelings.

My Fair Lady opened at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on March 15, 1956. It transferred to the Broadhurst Theatre and then The Broadway Theatre. The musical ran 2717 performances for more than nine years. It was directed by Moss Hart and produced by Herman Levin.

Throughout the years this spectacle has had three Broadway revivals. In 1976 opened at the St. James Theatre and after eight months transferred to the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. It closed on February 20, 1977, after a total of 377 performances and 7 previews. This time the director of the production was Jerry Adler. In 1981 My Fair Lady opened at the Uris Theatre and closed after 120 performances and 4 previews. This performance was directed by Patrick Garland and produced by Don Gregory and Mike Merrick. In 1993 another revival opened at the Virginia Theatre with 165 performances. Howard Davies was the director. The show was produced by Barry & Fran Weissler, Jujamcyn Theaters. The original West End production opened in 1958, and ran for a total of 2281 performances.
