Cats is a world-famous musical based on the collection of whimsical poems by T. S. Eliot - Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. The musical is composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and originally directed by Trevor Nunn.
The show tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as the the Jellicle choice and decide which cat will ascend to the Heavyside Layer and come back to a new life.
The musical premiered in London's West End in 1981 at the New London Theatre. The final performance was on May 11, 2002, and broadcast on a large screen in Covent Garden. The show held the record as London's longest running musical until October 8, 2006. The Original London Cast Recording of Cats won the 1982 Grammy Award for Best Cast Album. The next year the Original Broadway Cast Recording won the same award.
The Broadway production opened in 1982 at the Winter Garden Theatre. The production closed on September 10, 2000, after a total number of 7,485 performances.
Throughout the years Cats has been translated into 10 languages and has been presented in over 20 countries. "The show was great. I have to tell you I was a little worried about buying tix on line.... I was imagining that my daughter would get to the show and find out the tickets were duplicates or something. I was very happy they weren't and I would definitely purchase tickets through your website in the future."
