The New York Yankees competes in Major League Baseball (MLB) in the American League's (AL) East Division, and is based in the The Bronx in New York City. They are one of the AL's eight charter (original) franchises. ballpark was constructed across the street, on the former site of
Macombs Dam Park, north-northeast of the 1923 Yankee Stadium. The
stadium capacity for baseball is 50,287 (seats), and 52,325
(including standing room). For football it is 54,251. The stadium
opened on April 2, 2009, and was built at a cost of $1.5 billion
dollars. It is also home to the NCAA's Pinstripe Bowl. Rappers Jay-Z
and Eminem performed the first concert at Yankee Stadium on September
13, 2010.
