The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, commonly known as Nassau Coliseum or simply The Coliseum, is home to the NHL's New York Islanders hockey team. The Nassau Coliseum first opened its doors on May 29, 1972, at a cost of $32 million. It is located approximately 19 miles (31 km) east of New York City on Long Island. The 409,963 square foot facility has a capacity of 16,234 for hockey.
