

The Houston Rockets are professional basketball team, part of the Southwest Division of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association. The head coach of the team is Kevin McHale, supported by Kelvin Sampson, J. B. Bickerstaff, Chris Finch, Brett Gunning, Greg Buckner, Darryl Eto, and David Macha. The 2011-2012 Roster includes the players Jeff Adrien (8), Chase Budinger (10), Samuel Dalembert (21), Goran Dragic (3), Jonny Flynn (9), Jordan Hill (27), Courtney Lee (5), Kyle Lowry (7), Kevin Martin (12), Marcus Morris (2), Chandler Parsons (25), Patrick Patterson (54), Luis Scola (4), Hasheem Thabeet (32) and Terrence Williams (1).
The team was formed in San Diego, California, in 1967. Known as San Diego Rockets, they joined the National Basketball Association as an expansion team for the 1967-68 NBA season. The team made its first appearance in the playoffs in 1969. The Rockets moved to Houston, Texas, during the 1975-76 NBA season. The team has won the NBA Championships twice - in 1994 and in 1995.
The Summit (later Compaq Center) hosted the Houston Rockets from 1975 to 2003. The team moved into the Toyota Center, with a capacity of 18,043 seats, at the start of the 2003-2004 season.
The Houston Rockets have 8 representatives, inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame including Rick Barry (1987), Elvin Hayes (1990), Calvin Murphy (1993), Moses Malone (2001), Clyde Drexler (2004), Charles Barkley (2006), Hakeem Olajuwon (2008) and Scottie Pippen (2010).
The list of the retired numbers includes: 22 - Clyde Drexler (1995-1998); 23 - Calvin Murphy (1970-1983); 24 - Moses Malone (1976-1982); 34 - Hakeem Olajuwon (1984-2001); 45 - Rudy Tomjanovich (1970-1981); CD - Carroll Dawson (Assistant coach, General Manager 1979-2007 - as Dawson did not play for the Rockets, the team used his initials).

Toyota Center is located in downtown Houston, Texas. The indoor arena opened on October 6, 2003, and the premier event was a Fleetwood Mac concert that evening. It is the home of the Houston Rockets NBA basketball team and the Houston Aeros AHL hockey team. Other than basketball and hockey it can be used for various other events including concerts, sporting events such as wrestling and UFC, and other events. On November 13, 2008, the Latin Grammy Awards was hosted at the Toyota Center. It was the home of the Houston Comets WNBA basketball team from 2003 to 2007. The stadium capacity is 18,043 for basketball, 17,800 for hockey and 19,000 for concerts. The record crowd for a concert was set on November 20, 2008, with 17,962 attendees to a Metallica concert. For basketball the record crowd was 18,501 attendees to the Houston Rockets vs Los Angeles Lakers on May 14, 2009. It was built at a cost of $202 million dollars.
