BankAtlantic Center is located in Sunrise, Florida, a subdivision of Fort Lauderdale. The indoor arena opened on October 3, 1998, and the premier event was a Celine Dion concert. It has had several previous names including Broward County Civic Arena, National Car Rental Center, and Office Depot Center. It is the home of the Florida Panthers NHL Hockey team and the Miami Ciliente LFL Football team. Other than basketball and hockey it can be used for various other events including concerts, sporting events such as basketball, boxing, wrestling, MMA and bull riding, and other events. The facility is the annual host to the Orange Bowl Basketball Classic held in December. It served as the host to the 2003 NHL All-Star Game and the 2006 ABA All-Star Game. On May 23, 2008 and again on October 29, 2008, then Senator Barack Obama held rallies as part of his Presidential campaign at the BankAtlantic Center. It was the home of the Florida Pit Bulls ABA Basketball team from 2005 to 2006, the Florida Bobcats AFL Football team from 1999 to 2001 and the Florida ThunderCats NPSL Soccer team from 1998 to 1999. The stadium capacity is 20,737 for basketball, 19,250 for hockey and 20,763 for concerts. It was built at a cost of $185 million dollars.
