Houston Dynamo Tickets:
The Houston Dynamo (aka - Dynamo, Orange Crush, La Naranja, The Men in Orange, The Orange, Die Oranje) is a professional soccer team that competes in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the Eastern Conference (since the 2011 season). All of their home games have been played at Robertson Stadium in Houston, Texas, but the team will be moving into BBVA Compass Stadium in downtown Houston, Texas, upon its completion and are expected to play their first home game there on May 12, 2012. The team moved from San Jose originally in 2005 but since then, in 2008, the San Jose Earthquakes resumed play in the Western Conference. Due to the fact that the actual franchise itself did not move to Houston, it was only the players and coaching staff that actually moved, the Dynamo are, in essence, an expansion team. They were originally named Houston 1836, but due to the controversy of the name, 1836 was the year Texas fought for independence from Mexico, and after protests from Hispanic fans, the MLS renamed the team Houston Dynamo.
The Dynamo played their first official season opener at home in Robertson Stadium on April 2, 2006, against the Colorado Rapids crushing them 5 to 2! The Dynamo immediately made themselves into an outstanding MLS soccer team and finished their inaugural season in second place in the Western Conference with an 11 wins 8 losses and 13 draws record. They went on to defeat Chivas USA in the semifinals, Colorado Rapids in the finals and finally New England Revolution to win the MLS Cup on November 12, 2006, which qualified them for the 2007 CONCACAF Champions Cup. The season in 2007 was an even more impressive season for the Dynamo when they finished their second season, again in second place, with a 15 wins 8 losses and 7 draws record! They again went on to advance through the playoffs and met up with New England Revolution for the MLS Cup and on November 18, 2007, the Dynamo won their second MLS Cup in a row, establishing them as a major competitor in MLS soccer. Since then the team has advanced to the playoffs in every season except for the 2010 season.
The Houston Dynamo's head coach is Scottish born Dominic Kinnear and has been since he relocated with the team from San Jose in 2005. Under his direction the Dynamo have won two MLS Cups - 2006 and 2007, competed in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the North American SuperLiga, the Pan-Pacific Championship and the COCACAF Champions League. Some notable players include Brad Davis - the only original team member that is still in active play from the San Jose move and Major League Soccer MVP Award winner in 2011, Wade Barrett - retired from play and now entering coaching staff, Paul Dalglish, Kei Kamara and Eddie Robinson - retired from play and now holding an administrative position with the Dynamo and receiver of MLS Best XI in 2007.
