Alabama Crimson Tide football team are the official University of Alabama football team. The team played their first game on November 11, 1892, beating out a team comprised of local high school football players from Birmingham by a score of 56-0. They were originally known as the Cadets, the Crimson White, the Varsity or the Thin Red Line. By 1908 they adopted the nickname Crimson Tide. They are sometimes referred to as 'Bama or the Red Elephants. The Crimson Tide compete in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in the Western Division of the SEC. All of their home games are played at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The current head coach of the team is Nick Saban and has been in that position since 2007. The Crimson Tide is an extremely successful team and has 13 national championships, 6 of which were acquired during coach Paul "Bear" Bryant's reign from 1958 until 1982. The team holds a winning record against every SEC team, current and past. They have won 26 conference championships including 4 Southern Conference Championships and 22 SEC Championships. The team has played in an NCAA record 58 bowl games with an impressive overall record of 33 wins, 22 losses and 3 draws, including the BCS National Championship Game in the 2009 and 2011 seasons. Since the College Football Hall of Fame opened in 1951, four coaches and 19 players have been inducted from Alabama. Mark Ingram was the first player to have ever been awarded a Heisman Trophy and that wasn't until the 2009 season. Coach Bryant won the AFCA Coach of the Year award three times - 1961, 1971 and 1973. They have several rivals including the Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers and Tennessee Volunteers. The team colors are crimson (red) and white. The team mascot is Big Al the elephant.

Bryant-Denny Stadium is located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The outdoor stadium has a natural grass field and opened on September 28, 1929, for the first game played there - Alabama Crimson Tide vs Mississippi College. It was previously named Denny Stadium until 1975 when it was renamed Bryant-Denny Stadium, after coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. It is the home of the Alabama Crimson Tide NCAA football team and is also the location of the Super Six (Alabama High School Athletic Association state football championship games) on odd numbered years. The stadium capacity is currently 101,821 seats, however it was originally built with 12,000 seats. Several expansions throughout the past century were required to bring the stadium up to its current capacity, the first one completing in 1946 and the last completed in 2010. It is the 5th largest stadium in the US and the 7th largest non-racing stadium in the world. For the record attendance game the stadium was packed with 102,437 fans to watch Alabama Crimson Tide vs Auburn Tigers on November 5, 2011. It was built at a cost of $196,000 dollars.
