Here are some answers to the questions we are frequently asked at MyCityRocks:

Q. What is MyCityRocks?

A. MyCityRocks is a social engagement venture designed to help our friends get involved in their cities, learn about and enjoy local entertainment and leisure options, and help make their part of the world a better place to live.

Q. Is MyCityRocks a social networking site like MySpace or Facebook?

A. No. MyCityRocks is a grassroots-driven independent company with a very different focus -- our objective is to use social networking technology to help our friends have fun, make a difference out in the real world, meet people who share their passions, and enjoy their leisure time to the fullest.

Q. What cities will MyCityRocks be in next?

A. The MyCityRocks Ticket Exchange presently operates globally, with ticket inventory available for concerts, theatre, and sporting events worldwide. While the United States and Canada are the most active areas for transactions, we also see activity from the UK and Europe, Russia, Israel, China, Mexico, South America and Australia. No one seems to be buying or selling concert tickets from Antarctica yet, but hope springs eternal! While our online marketplace is global, our cultural awareness and local philanthropy activities are presently concentrated primarily in and around our hometown of Houston. We are working at finding ways to expand that activity to more cities aroudn the world. Everything we do is driven by YOU, so if you live in a city you would like to see us in, just send us a note and let us know, and let your friends know too!

Q. How did MyCityRocks come about?

A. Please see the Our Story page on this web site. You also might find the article "The Acquisition of MySpace" to provide a lot of useful background information on the history of online social engagement ventures that led up to the launch of MyCityRocks.

Q. What can I do to help?

A. For our first few years, MyCityRocks was almost entirely volunteer driven by people who wanted to make a difference in their community. While we now have a small core staff, we still rely heavily on volunteers who want to help create awareness for their local scene and make a difference in supporting philanthropic activities in their city. If you are interested in getting involved, please send us a note. If you are in the Houston area, be sure to sign up for Represent HOUSTON, and indicate on the sign-up form that you are interested in joining our street team.

Q. I want MyCityRocks to sponsor and promote my event. How can I make that happen? Can I advertise on

A. Send us a note and tell us what you have in mind. We are here to promote the local scene, and we are particularly interested in helping promote events that support the community and charitable causes, although at the moment our focus is primarily on events in and around our hometown of Houston. MyCityRocks does not accept paid advertising.

Q. What happens if I break one of your "3 Simple Rules"?

A. Then you are in big trouble, and it is going to go onto your permanent record that will follow you around for the rest of your life.
