Van Halen is a legendary American hard rock band. In 1972 in Pasadena, California, the brothers Van Halen formed their first rock band named "Mammoth." The lineup included Eddie Van Halen (lead and rhythm guitars, keyboards, and backing vocals), Alex Van Halen (drums), Mark Stone (bass, backing vocals) and David Lee Roth (lead vocals). In 1974 the band was renamed to Van Halen. The same year Mark Stone was replaced by Michael Anthony. The band achieved huge success right after the release of their self titled debut album, recorded in 1978. The release included tracks like "Runnin' with the Devil," "Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love," "Jamie's Cryin," and the guitar solo "Eruption." The album became an enduring classic and in 1999 was certified diamond. Throughout the years the band released twelve albums. Their status as superstars was confirmed with the release of the album "1984"(MCMLXXXIV). It was the first album recorded at the 5150 Studio, where every Van Halen album since 1984 has been recorded. The lead single "Jump" is the only single the group has released in their career to reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. In 1985 David Lee Roth started a solo career and was replaced by Sammy Hagar. Years later, Roth joined the band to record several songs in 1996 and finally returned in 2006 for a big world tour in 2007. Eddie's son, Wolfgang Van Halen, joined the band as bassist and backing vocals, replacing Michael Anthony in 2006. On March 12, 2007, the band Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A confirmed 2012 tour is the first time the rock legends will be on the road in five years. Fans are also awaiting the pending new Van Halen record, which is produced by Ross Hogarth and is the band's first full-length album with singer David Lee Roth since 1984.
