Anthony Dominick Benedetto also known as Tony Bennett is an American singer of pop and jazz music and an accomplished painter, creating works under the name Benedetto. He was born in 1926 in Astoria, Queens, New York City. His music career started in 1949, when Bob Hope invited him on a concert tour. In the next year Tony Bennett signed a contract with Columbia Records and in 1952 released his debut studio album "Because of You." Throughout the years Bennett has released 58 studio albums, nine live albums, and 19 compilations. He has sold over 50 million records worldwide during his career. The albums "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," "MTV Unplugged: Tony Bennett," and "Duets: An American Classic" went platinum. Defined as one of America's most renowned jazz artists, Bennett has now earned eleven RIAA Gold album certifications spanning his accomplished 59-year career. In 2011, Tony Bennett released the studio album "Duets II." It was a sequel to his previous duet album, "Duets: An American Classic." The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and entered the charts in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Hungary, New Zealand, Spain, and Poland. Tony Bennett has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1997. He has won fifteen Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001, and received a lifetime achievement award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers in 2002.
