Tommy Emmanuel is a unique Australian guitarist and songwriter. His "finger style" is akin to playing guitar the way a pianist plays piano, using all ten fingers. William Thomas Emmanuel was born in Muswellbrook, New South Wales, Australia, in 1955. His first solo recording, "From Out Of Nowhere," was released in 1979. In 1980, during a tour in North America, Emmanuel met Chet Atkins, who took the Australian under his wing and began introducing him to other guitar legends. In 1996 Tommy's dream of recording with Chet Atkins came true, and they released the album "The Day The Finger Pickers Took Over The World." That same year Emmanuel received his first Grammy award nomination. In 1985 Emmanuel joined one of the biggest Australian rock bands Dragon. As a member of the group, he recorded the platinum-selling album "Dreams of Ordinary Men." Tommy Emmanuel became extremely popular in U.S. in 1997 with his album "Midnight Drive." The release was in the top five for 16 weeks, and made him the "most added artist" on the NAC radio charts. As a songwriter Emmanuel collaborated with artist like Olivia Newton-John, Al Jarreau, and Sheena Easton. In 2010, Tommy Emmanuel was honored as a Queen's Member of the Order of Australia for his "service to the music and entertainment industries as a guitarist, and to the community as a supporter of Kids Under Cover." "Kids Under Cover" is an Australian charitable organization aiming to provide homeless and at risk young people with positive role modeling to help them make life changing decisions. Tommy was also one of the musicians asked to complete the unfinished recordings on Michael Jackson's posthumous record, "MICHAEL." Emmanuel was asked to play a solo to the album's closing track "Much Too Soon," which Jackson originally wrote in 1981.
