Alternative indie rock band, The Kooks, formed in Brighton, England, United Kingdom in 2004. Named for the song on David Bowie's "Hunky Dory" the band consists of Luke Pritchard (vocals guitar), Hugh Harris (guitar), Peter Denton (bass), and Nick Millard (drums). They met while attending Brighton Music College in the mid-2000s. Each shared a liking for the Strokes, the Everly Brothers, the Police, and Funkadelic, which formed the basis of their sound in 2005. Before the year's end, the British foursome released singles for Virgin UK. "Eddie's Gun" and "Sofa Song" did well on the U.K. singles chart, but it would be "You Don't Love Me" which eventually gave the band its first Top 20 hit. The Kooks' debut full-length, "Inside In/Inside Out," was released in 2006. The band's fifth single, "Naive," reached number five on the charts.
