Shinedown is an American rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 2001 and founded by singer Brent Smith, Brad Stewart on bass, guitarist Jasin Todd, and drummer Barry Kerch. After a few line-up changes, the band's current line-up consists of Smith and Kerch, with guitarist Zach Myers and bassist and pianist Eric Bass. "Leave a Whisper" was the band's debut album, released in 2003. It featured the tracks"Fly from the Inside," "Burning Bright," "45," and their popular rendition of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man." The acoustic cover jolted the band to popularity. In 2004 the band released a live DVD of the album, entitled "Live from the Inside." The band returned to the studio in 2005 to record their second album "Us and Them," released in 2005. It had the three singles "Save Me," "I Dare You," and "Heroes." The lead single, "Save Me", maintained the number one position on the Active Rock Charts for twelve weeks straight. The other two singles had similar success with "I Dare You" being performed by Chris Daughtry on American Idol and being the secondary theme song for the WWE's Wrestlemania 22. "Us and Them" was certified gold by the RIAA on November of 2006. After a break, the band began recording their third album, "The Sound of Madness," in Los Angeles. It was released in 2008. Their first single, "Devour" was their second number one single on the active rock chart. "Second Chance," the second single off "The Sound of Madness," became Shinedown's biggest hit to date, their first top 10 song on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number seven. "Second Chance" has since gone double platinum. Shinedown was nominated for an American Music Awards in 2009 and have sold over six million albums worldwide.
