American singer/songwriter Neil Diamond rose to popularity in the 60's and has enjoyed an entertainment career that's spanned over fifty years. A performer in rock, pop, folk, and country, Diamond was born in Brooklyn on January 21, 1941, and went to school with Barbra Streisand, where they both performed in the school choir. His first breakthrough was as a writer for the 1967 hit song "I'm a Believer," performed by The Monkees. The song charted at number 1 for seven weeks. He also wrote "Sweet Caroline," dedicated to Caroline Kennedy and performed by such greats as Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. Diamond was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984 and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.
