Joan Rivers is an American comedian, actress, author, talk show host, playwright, screenwriter, jewelry designer, cosmetic company entrepreneur, and more. She was born in 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, and is famous for her trademark raspy voice and debaucherous jokes. Her success in comedy started in 1968 when she appeared on "The Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson. In 1969 she started her own TV talk show "That Show With Joan Rivers." In the early 1980s Joan Rivers released the best-selling comedy album "What Becomes a Semi-Legend Most?" The album reached number 22 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and was nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Comedy Album." She then had another successful show in 1986 with the Fox Network television show "The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers." Two years later she returned to daytime television with "The Joan Rivers Show." It ran for five years and won her an Emmy Award for "Outstanding Talk Show Host" in 1990. In 1989 she was honored with own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2002 Joan Rivers started a new project - a comedy concert in one act, "Broke and Alone," that she wrote and performed. In August 2007, she co-wrote and starred in "The Joan Rivers Theatre Project," which debuted at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco. Throughout the years Joan Rivers has starred in 24 movies, 42 television productions, and has released ten best-selling books.
