Bill Cosby is a stand-up comedian, actor, author, television producer, educator, and musician with an illustrious career. He was born in 1937 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His breakthrough role came in 1965 when he appeared as Alexander Scott in "I Spy," winning numerous Emmys for his performance. By this time he had already released two comedy albums and was well-known among American audiences. In the 1960s, his stand-up act gained momentum and produced multiple best-selling comedy albums, which would go on to garner eight gold records, five platinum records, and six Grammy Awards. He was inducted to the Walk of Fame on February 8, 1960. In 1969 the comedian starred in his own situation comedy "The Bill Cosby Show." He was one of the major characters on the children's television series "The Electric Company" for its first two seasons, and created the educational cartoon comedy series "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids." Cosby has also acted in a number of films. In the 1980s, he again rocked the television world with the "The Cosby Show," which aired from 1984 to 1992. He also produced the spin-off sitcom "A Different World." He starred in the sitcom "Cosby" from 1996 to 2000 and hosted "Kids Say the Darndest Things" for two seasons. Cosby was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame in 1994.
