Arctic Monkeys is an English band formed in 2002 in Sheffield, United Kingdom. Currently the alternative rock band consists of Alex Turner (lead vocals, guitar and keyboards), Jamie 'Cookie' Cook (guitar and piano), Nick O'Malley (bass and backing vocals), and Matt Helders (drums, percussion and backing vocals). Founding guitarist Glyn Jones left in 2002 and the bassist Andy Nicholson left in 2006. Arctic Monkeys released their first studio album, "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not," in 2006. They already were extremely popular in England after releasing several singles and entering the Top charts in the UK. Their debut album became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history. The record was released in the U.S. in March 2006 and entered at number 24 on the Billboard album chart. In 2007, Arctic Monkeys released the album "Favourite Worst Nightmare" and sold close to 10, 000 copies in UK on the first day of the release. Every track from the release charted in the Top 200 of the UK Singles Chart. In 2009 the band released the album "Humbug." It included a stunning set of songs that were heavier than their previous records, but still full of their usual impact and vitality. In 2011, Arctic Monkeys streamed their new album, "Suck It and See," in its entirety on their official website www.arcticmonkeys.com. The album featured 12 songs produced by James Ford at the legendary Sound City Studios in Los Angeles. Since 2003, the band has had four world tours: "Whatever People Say I Am Tour" (2005-2006), "Favourite Worst Nightmare Tour" (2007), "Humbug Tour" (2009-2010), and "Suck It and See Tour" (2011-2012). The band already has announced they will be touring North America in 2012 with The Black Keys.
