David Sedaris is an American comedian and writer. He is considered a master of satire and one of the most observant writers of the human condition today. David Sedaris was born in 1956 in Binghamton, New York. The humorist made his comic debut in 1992 on National Public Radio's "Morning Edition," reading "SantaLand Diaries," his humorous essay about the times when Sedaris worked as a Christmas elf in "SantaLand" at Macy's department store. Together with his sister, Amy Sedaris, they released several plays under the name The Talent Family, "Stump the Host," "Stitches," "The Little Frieda Mysteries," and "The Book of Liz." In 2001, Sedaris became the third recipient of the Thurber Prize for American Humor. In 2005 he was nominated for two Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word Album for "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim," and Best Comedy Album "David Sedaris: Live at Carnegie Hall." In 2008 the audio version of "When You Are Engulfed in Flames" was nominated for a Grammy for Best Spoken Word. David Sedaris is the author of the books "Barrel Fever," "Naked,"" Holidays on Ice," "Dress Your Family in Corduroy," "Denim," "When You Are Engulfed in Flames," and "Me Talk Pretty One Day." He has sold over seven million copies of his books and his works have been translated into 25 languages. David is also famous for an anthology of short stories "Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules" released in 2005. The book featured such notable writers as Lorrie Moore, Alice Munro, Joyce Carol Oates, Jean Thompson, and Tobias Wolff. Sedaris has contributed almost 40 essays to the "The New Yorker" magazine and blog. The comedian has released ten albums throughout his career.
