Trace Adkins was born in the town of Sarepta, Louisiana, in 1962, and took up the guitar at an early age. He's known for continuing country's traditionalist mark during the crossover-heyday of the late '90s. He mixed classic honky tonk with elements of gospel, blues, and rock & roll. He studied music at Louisiana Tech, where he also played football and worked on an offshore oil rig after graduating. His finger was severed in an accident while on the job, but he would eventually return to music with the gospel quartet the New Commitments. In the early '90s he began to pursue a solo career, playing honky tonk bars and clubs and honing a powerful, broad baritone voice in the process. He spent several years on the circuit and finally moved to Nashville to try his hand in the music industry there; he was quickly signed to Capitol by Scott Hendricks, who had produced the likes of Brooks & Dunn, Faith Hill, and Alan Jackson. He released his debut in 1996 with the album "Dreamin' Out Loud." He has gone on to release seven more studio albums and two Greatest Hits compilations. In addition, he has charted more than 20 singles on the Billboard country music charts, including the number one hits "(This Ain't) No Thinkin' Thing," "Ladies Love Country Boys," and "You're Gonna Miss This."All but one of his studio albums have received gold or platinum certification in the United States, with his highest-selling album to date being 2005's "Songs About Me," which was certified two times platinum. He has also made several appearances on television, including "Hollywood Squares" and "Pyramid," and was a finalist on "The Celebrity Apprentice." He also voiced the recurring character Elvin on "King of the Hill." He has also written an autobiography entitled "A Personal Stand: Observations and Opinions from a Free-Thinking Roughneck," which was released in 2007. It's curious to note that Trace Adkins suffered several serious injuries throughout his lifetime. As a youth, he was involved in an automobile accident in which both his arms, a leg, and some ribs were broken and his nose was partially torn off. He was forced to give up football after a severe knee injury at Louisiana Tech, and was also shot through his heart and both lungs by his ex-wife in 1994, he survived and chose not to press charges.
