Martina McBride is an American contemporary singer and songwriter. She was born in 1966 in Sharon, Kansas. Her professional music career started in 1991, after signing a contract with RCA Nashville Records. Her first album, "The Time Has Come," was released in 1992, your traditional country fare. The next year it was followed by the album "The Way That I Am," which marked her commercial breakthrough with the more pop sound of the tracks. The single "My Baby Loves Me" reached number two on the country charts. Her first number one hit was released in 1995, "Wild Angels." Her album of the same name was certified Gold on 1996, and Platinum in 1998. 1997 was a successful year for McBride when the album "Evolution" became her first Top Ten country album. It also produced four more top ten hits, "Valentine," "Happy Girl," "Wrong Again," and "Whatever You Say." As most other country artists, McBride also released a holiday album "White Christmas" in 1998. Her rendition of "O Holy Night" would remain on the charts for the next four years. Her next album was released in 1999 and was simply titled "Emotion." Although the lead single "I Love You" reached number one on the Billboard country charts, the album was not acclaimed so well by either fans or critics. In 2003 Martina released a self-titled record. She continued the tradition of representing tasteful tunes with powerful vocals. The CD included 11 tracks and an exclusive live performance of "Over the Rainbow." In 2004, McBride won the CMA's Female Vocalist award for the fourth time, following wins in 2003, 2002 and 1999. Her album "Timeless" was released in 2005 and included covers of McBride's favorite country classics. In just one week the album sold over 250,000 copies. In 2007 the single "Anyway" from her album "Waking Up Laughing" became a hit and won numerous awards. McBride received a BMI award for "Most Played Song of The Year," two ASCAP awards for "Female Song of The Year" and "Song of The Year," and Billboard Music Award for "Top Country Grossing Tour of The Year." The release of her album "Shine" in 2009 was followed two years later by her album "Eleven." This release featured some of Martina's most personal songs, with the powerhouse vocalist penning six of the 11 tracks.
