American progressive metal band Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) was founded in 1993 by composer, lyricist, and producer Paul O'Neill. His concept was to create a progressive rock band "that would push the boundaries further than any group before, following in the footsteps of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Pink Floyd, [and] the WhoÉ." TSO has gone on to sell over 8.5 million albums and 8 million concert tickets. The band is renowned not only for their series of rock operas, including Beethoven's Last Night, Christmas Eve and Other Stories, The Christmas Attic, Night Castle, and The Lost Christmas Eve, but also their extensive concerts, which showcases a full orchestra, laser and light show, and pyrotechnics. Billboard Magazine and Pollstar ranks TSO one of the top ten ticket-selling bands of the new millennium.
