Chris Botti is an American musician and composer, dubbed by his fans and critics "Trumpet King." His performances are loved for his beautiful burnished tones and soulful flair. Botti was born in 1962 in Portland, Oregon. He started playing the trumpet when he was nine. In 1985, after studying in the prestigious Indiana University music program under the noted jazz educator David Baker, Botti relocated to New York. In 1990, Botti was asked to join Paul Simon's band and for the next five years gained experience in touring and recording hit music. In 1995, Chris Botti recorded his solo debut "First Wish." This record combined the sounds of contemporary pop-jazz with the textures of art rock. The sound was new, unique and really brave. Since 2000, his albums were released under the Verve label. The next studio project was titled "Midnight Without You" and was released in 1997. It was followed by "Slowing Down the World" in 1999. The same year Chris Botti was invited to tour with Sting and joined as a featured soloist in the "Brand New Day Tour." In 2001 the talented musician released his fourth studio album and first under Columbia Records, titled "Night Sessions." The release included two vocal tunes which helped the disc reach the charts. In 2002 he released two albums, "The Very Best of Chris Botti" and the holiday album "December." His experiments with sound continued in the album "A Thousand Kisses Deep," recorded in 2003. Guest vocalists included Chantal Kreviazuk on "The Look of Love" and Bridget Benenate on "Ever Since We Met." After the release of his 2004 critically acclaimed CD "When I Fall In Love," Chris Botti became the largest selling American jazz instrumentalist artist. The album was followed by "To Love Again: The Duets," "Live: With Orchestra and Special Guests," and "Italia." In 2008 Botti invited an extraordinary variety of musical artists, including Sting, Josh Groban, Steven Tyler, Yo-Yo Ma, John Mayer, Katharine McPhee, Lucia Micarelli, and Sy Smith, to join him on-stage with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Orchestra for a pair of once-in-a-lifetime concerts, produced by Bobby Colomby and directed by Jim Gable, at Boston's historic Symphony Hall. The record "Chris Botti in Boston" was released the next year. In 2011, he released the album "This is Chris Botti."
