Garrison Keillor is an American radio host, famous mainly in US, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. He is also a very talented author, storyteller and humorist. Gary Edward "Garrison" Keillor was born in 1942 Anoka, Minnesota. He made his first foray in the radio show business in 1969. In 1994 he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame. Since 1974 (with a break between 1987 and 1989), Keillor hosted the Minnesota Public Radio show "A Prairie Home Companion." The show is known as "Garrison Keillor's Radio Show" on United Kingdom's BBC Radio 4 Extra, as well as on RTE in Ireland, Australia's ABC, and Radio New Zealand National in New Zealand. "A Prairie Home Companion" is a radio variety show recorded before a live audience. Throughout the years the production has been aired mainly from "The Fitzgerald Theater," but also travels around the U.S. and overseas for its live weekly broadcasts. The artists, represented in the show, are of many genres, especially country, bluegrass, blues, and gospel, but it also has guest performers from a wide variety of other styles of music. Very often the production is hosted by different American stars, and Keillor appears only as a guest actor and to recite his weekly "News from Lake Wobegon" story. "Lake Wobegon Days" is a novel by Garrison Keillor, published in 1985. It is based on material from his radio show and represents a humorous account of life in the fictitious small town of Lake Wobegon, Minnesota. Garrison Keillor's unique talent is his ability to intertwine his literary creativity into radio production. 27 years after this extraordinary town was placed on the fictional map, his life is still a part of the daily dose of amusement for thousands of listeners. In 2006, the movie "A Prairie Home Companion," directed by Robert Altman, was released. Keillor wrote the screenplay and starred in the movie. The production received a Hochi Film Award for Best International Film.
