Tool is an American rock band that consists of singer Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey, and bassists Justin Chancellor, who replaced their original bassist Paul D'Amour. The band formed in 1990, after the members relocated to Los Angeles. Keenan and Jones met through a mutual friend, and Danny Carey was Keenan's upstairs neighbor. The lineup was completed when bassist D'Amour was introduced to the group by a friend of Jones. Tool incorporates musical experimentation and visual arts with a heavy alternative metal sound. They are described as a progressive rock and art rock act. The band has received three Grammy Awards.
