Kathy Griffin is an American actress and stand-up comedian. She was born in 1960 in Oak Park, Illinois. Her career started in 1980 after joining the Los Angeles Groundlings comedy improvisational troupe. She guest starred on such series as "ER," "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," "Civil Wars," "Suddenly Susan," "Seinfeld," and "Ugly Betty." Since 1989 Kathy Griffin has played roles in 41 movies and TV films. She has 62 appearances in different television series. In 2011 Kathy Griffin was ranked at number 21 on the TV Guide Network chart for "Funniest Women on TV." In 1996, Kathy aired her first stand-up special the "HBO Comedy Half-Hour." In 1998 Griffin starred in her first one-hour special, HBO's "Kathy Griffin: A Hot Cup of Talk." Since 2004 she's had 14 of her own specials on the American cable television channel "Bravo." In 2005, the reality show "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List" debuted on "Bravo." All six seasons of the program have been nominated for the Emmy Award for "Outstanding Reality Program," with seasons two and three winning in 2007 and 2008. In 2008, Griffin released her first comedy album "For Your Consideration." It featured 14 tracks such as "Straight Guys Wake Up!," "Wizard of Woz," and "My First Rebanning (Hi Barbara Walters!)." The album received a Grammy nomination for "Best Comedy Album" and debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Top Comedy Albums chart. In 2009 Kathy Griffin became a best-selling author with the release of her autobiography entitled, "Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin." The book topped the New York Times Best Sellers List, The Wall Street Journal List, and Publishers Weekly List.
