Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, often called "the Woodlands Pavilion", is located in The Woodlands, Texas, near Spring, Texas, 27 miles north of downtown Houston, Texas. The outdoor pavilion opened in April of 1990, and was designed to support concerts and other performing and contemporary artists. The pavilion capacity was originally 3,000 seats and a sloped, grass covered lawn area capacity of 7,000 persons for a total of 10,000 guests capacity. After Hurricane Ike struck the area on September 13, 2008, significant damage was done to the pavilion and all concerts for the remainder of the year were canceled. After renovations the pavilion capacity was brought up to almost 6,500 covered seats with an additional 10,000 lawn guests for a total of 16,500 person capacity.
